Living Library: Browse through experiences, meet a friend

Instead of browsing traditional bookshelves, this time we’ll be leafing through the life experiences of our new fellow residents. Our guests, who have moved to Ljubljana from various countries, will become “living books” for a day. This is an opportunity to listen to people from different backgrounds in a relaxed atmosphere. You’ll learn about the challenges of relocation and the beauty of cultural diversity, while your presence will help build bridges. Anyone who can share their stories and be heard finds a new sense of belonging. We’re organizing this event in collaboration with the Moja mavrica institute.

Silke

Hi, I’m Silke! I am currently living in Ljubljana while doing an internship at Moja mavrica, an ngo focusing on people with fewer opportunities. This isn’t my first experience abroad: I studied in Krakow for 5 months, completed a 6-week internship in Zambia, participated in two Erasmus+ projects (one in Austria and one in The Netherlands),  and spent two and a half months in Thailand travelling and volunteering. These experiences have been incredibly enriching to me, and l’m very grateful for them. My experience in Ljubljana therefore does stand on its own, but is connected to my other experiences abroad and my relationship to my home country, Belgium. I’m looking forward to sharing this with you.

Hello to anyone who may be reading this! My name is Flora and I come from sunny Greece. I always wanted to travel the world, meet new people, learn new things, see many places and explore different customs and traditions. No matter where I go I will always carry my Greek identity with me, but I’m willing to redefine the edges of this identity with new cultures. My journey here to Slovenia is something dear to me. I gained so many new experiences and along the way I learned new things about myself. It makes me happy to share this story. So ask away! I’m an open book!

Dominyka

I am Dominyka Malinauskaitė, a social work and psychosocial counselling student at Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania.  This spring semester I am studying social work at the University of Ljubljana, as part of the Erasmus+ programme. During this event, I can share my experience of adapting to life in Slovenia, including some of the challenges and positive moments of integration.
