The English Book Club: Paul Auster – Travels in the Scriptorium

A man wakes up in an unfamiliar room. He does not know where he is, nor who he is. On the table in front of him lies a manuscript and several different clues about who he might be and what may have happened to him. In the room, which appears to be locked, he is visited during the day by people who seem only half familiar to him. Is he dreaming? Is he undergoing treatment? Is he in prison? Travels in the Scriptorium is a typical metafictional work by the cult writer Paul Auster. In the novella, published in 2006, almost all the characters from his earlier works appear, with the exception of the main protagonist, Mr. Blank, and a few minor figures. The events are constantly observed by someone through cameras. Where does this fantasy labyrinth end?

Prior registration in the library is required. The book club will be led by Maruša Bertoncelj.
