The English Book Club: The Poet X
In the crossover novel in verse The Poet X (2018) by Elizabeth Acevedo, teenager Xiomara Batista tells of the challenges of growing up in a family where religion and avoiding temptation are prioritised. Xiomara longs to be heard, to find her voice and to have the strength to forge her own path in slam poetry. The novel was translated into Slovene by Katja Zakrajšek and awarded the Vasja Cerar Prize in 2015.
