A history of loneliness

The author of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is dealing in his 13th novel (and up to now the only one that is happening in Ireland) with a new socially traumatic topic: the lives of priests and the problem of paedophilic scandals that were shaking Ireland in the transition from the 20th to the 21st century. Through a sincere personal narration of Odran Yates we follow his life form childhood, shaken by a family tragedy, through his consent to a priestly profession and a quiet priestly life, to severe disappointments and recognitions as he became aware of the controversial activities in his surroundings only at mature age. The shocking narration is convincing, tense, undeferrable. (VVŠ)
