Small great things

The popular American writer Jodi Picoult has in 2016 published her already 24th novel, Small Great Things; in a tense narration she tries to clearly portray the hidden dimensions of racism in modern American society. The intertwining first-personal narrations comprise the story of Ruth Jefferson, a highly trained and work committed nurse – a midwife, whose life turns upside down, when a father of a new-born, a member of skinheads and of white superiority due to the colour of her skin prohibits her handling his baby, who then suddenly dies in the hospital; and Ruth is charged with murder.
