Sunrise on the Reaping

Haymitch Abernathy is a mentor whom readers already know from the hugely popular Hunger Games trilogy. Sunrise on the Reaping focuses on his life before becoming a mentor. Haymitch was born in District 12 on Reaping Day. The 16-year-old does his best to help his mother and brother Sid. Despite all his responsibilities, he wants to spend as much free time as possible with his beloved Lenore Dove. With the prospect of spending time with Lenore and the wonderful gift she gave him, it seems like he has a pleasant day ahead of him. But the threat of the reaping remains, and everything is about to change. In addition to its abundance of action, the novel critically evaluates the existing social system and the passivity of the people. (EZ)
