Ethno jazz concert

Listen to the superb work of the Petra Onderuf Quartet, be transported into a variety of musical genres with the duo Ladja & Barka and dance to the energetic rhythms of Dirty Sanchez.

The Slovak jazz violinist and composer Petra Onderuf’s compositions combine different musical traditions in unusual ways. She incorporates rhythmic and melodic ideas from diverse genres of world music into conventional jazz paradigms. Her compositions are rooted in jazz harmonies, odd rhythms and improvisation based on the eclectic use of the violin, bridging the gap between classical, world music and jazz. The compositions take the listener through textures, earthy rhythms and playful melodies.

The band:

Petra Onderuf – violin

Rok Zalokar – piano

Luka Dobnikar – double bass

Aleš Zorec – drums

Ajda and Ana Blaževič Arko are sisters who have been involved in music since they were very young. They both started with classical violin, but with the help of their violin teachers Polona Udovič and Bojan Cvetrežnik they were also introduced to folk music. They have participated in many projects of the String Dance and Etno Histeria World Orchestra, and now they present themselves as a duo. They play mainly folk music from Northern and Western Europe: Irish reels and jigs, Swedish, Balfolk and Americana tunes, but they also try their hand at writing their own compositions.

The band:

Ajda Blaževič Arko – violin, vocals

Ana Blaževič Arko – violin, vocals

The Ljubljana-based band Dirty Sanchez plays a fusion of ethno, funk and Balkan, combined into an innovative musical experience. In the past, the band was a rotation of outstanding international musicians such as Jairo Enrique Habib Benitez, Petra Onderufova, Toby Kuhn, Uroš Jezdić and Žiga Šercer. Today, the fresh team is made up of experienced musicians who skilfully blend original music with arrangements of traditional songs. Most of the music is a fusion of Eastern and Afro-Latin rhythms, interpreted in a ‘funk’ way, which gives the music an energetic and unique sound.

Damir Vintar – bass

Jože Cesar – drums
