How do I become a library member?
You can join the library in person or online. To register at one of our library branches, you will need a Urbana city card (available for purchase at the library) and a valid personal ID.
- Children and young people under 18, can join the library for free.
- Students and pensioners are eligible for a discounted membership fee upon presenting appropriate documentation.
Online registration is available for adults (18+) only. The online membership fee is €15 and includes access to remote services only.
How can I renew my membership?
You can renew your membership through Cobiss+ or in person at your nearest library branch.
How do I get a password for Cobiss+?
To access Cobiss+ services and e-resources, you’ll need a personal password. You can manage this through My Library (Moja knjižnica), which allows you to reserve, renew, and request materials via the COBISS+ online catalog.
If you’ve forgotten your password or haven’t set one up yet, you can do so using the online form:
- Click on Change Password to create or update your password.
If you’ve forgotten your password, click on Forgot Password to request a new one.
What can I do in Cobiss+ and the mCobiss mobile app?
With Cobiss+ and the mCobiss mobile app, you can:
- View borrowed items
- Renew loan periods
- Reserve or request materials
- Order items via interlibrary loan
- Set up personalized notifications
Can I receive notifications by email or phone?
Yes! You can receive reminders about:
- Upcoming due dates
- Membership expiration
- Reserved items ready for pickup
- Overdue items
You can manage these settings in Cobiss+, mCobiss, or directly at the library.
What is interlibrary loan and how do I use it?
If an item is not available at the Ljubljana City Library, you can order it from other Slovenian libraries via:
- The library website
- Cobiss+
- In person at any branch
The interlibrary loan service has a fee of €9.00 per item.
I have received the second overdue notice, but I still have not returned the borrowed items. What happens now?
You will receive the third overdue notice on the fifteenth day after the second overdue notice. Then you will have to pay 0,50 EUR for the first overdue notice, 1,00 EUR for the second overdue notice, 2,10 EUR for the third overdue notice plus the overdue fine for each item.
Will I be notified when my due date is approaching?
Yes, if you enable notifications, you can receive email or SMS alerts reminding you of upcoming due dates and potential overdue items.
What if I lose or damage an item borrowed from the library?
If you lose or damage a library item, you will be required to either pay the replacement cost or provide a new copy in good condition. In both cases, a processing fee will also apply. For individual cases, please contact the head of the library where you borrowed the item.
I would like to repair the damaged items myself. May I do that?
Please do not attempt to repair damaged items yourself. Simply report the damage to a librarian when you return the item.
Can I access the Internet in the library?
Yes. If you are a library member, you can use library computers and access the internet free of charge via Libroam.
I am not a library member. Can I still use a computer?
Yes. Non-members may use designated e-point computers at the Ljubljana City Library for up to 15 minutes free of charge. For longer use, the fee is €1.00 per hour.
Which library services require payment?
Services such as printing, photocopying, and returning items at a different branch are subject to a fee according to the current price list, available at mklj.si/en.
The item I’m looking for is not available in your library. Can I still borrow it?
Yes. You can submit an Interlibrary Loan Request either in person at the library or online via cobiss.si/en → My COBISS / My Library. The service costs €9.00 per item.
Does your library offer any public events?
Yes! You can find our monthly Event Program and Event Calendar on the Ljubljana City Library homepage.
Do the physically handicapped and child prams have access to the libraries?
Most of the libraries are adequately accessible for the physically disabled. Check the pages for the individual library locations for specific information.
