Location of library: Dobrova Library

Since its beginnings in 1954, the Dobrova Library has grown from a small volunteer-run library into an important cultural and information hub. Today, with over 1,100 members and nearly 23,000 items in its collection, it is entering a new chapter. The new space in the Zelena dolina building is bright, accessible to all, and designed with reading, learning, creativity, and community in mind. The library is becoming more than just a place to borrow books – it’s becoming the heart of the community, an open space for all generations to come together and share ideas, inspiration, and experiences.

The new library features spaces for learning and relaxation, as well as areas for events, exhibitions, and creative work. With a unified membership card from the Ljubljana City Library, visitors can borrow books, magazines, and films, and also access e-books via the COBISS Ela portal, audiobooks on the Audibook platform, and streaming films through the Slovenian Film Database and Kanopy. The library continues to promote reading and creativity by offering story time, book clubs, creative workshops, exhibitions, lectures, and many other activities for children, teens, and adults. Young children can take part in the Ciciuhci reading badge, primary school students in the summer reading challenges Poletavci and NajPoletavci, and adults in the popular Mesto bere project. Special attention is also given to quality youth literature, marked with the Golden Pear (Zlata hruška) label.
