The Cycle of Czech and Slovak Film: If I Had a Gun

The film tells the story of wartime from the perspective of a young boy growing up. As the events of 1944 and 1945 unfold, the viewer follows the fate of ordinary people and their perceptions of the world and of themselves. The rifle Vlado receives from his uncle represents the desire to grow up, but it is also a constant reminder of the encounter with death.

Directed by Štefan Uher, 87 minutes, 1971; introductory presentation of the film by Wiktor Szotowski.
