The Centre for Youth Literature and Librarianship originates from Pionirska Library which has been a leading professional institution for youth librarianship since its establishment in 1948. Librarians in Pionirska connect rich tradition and research new possibilities of spreading quality literature for children and young adults.

The collection in Pionirska is intended for all who are interested in the area of youth literature and librarianship. The collection includes books for Slovene youth, the archive of Slovene youth periodicals from the end of the nineteenth century to the present day, Slovene books for the young translated into foreign languages, a collection of the best foreign language picture books and professional works on youth literature and librarianship. The collection is available within the library only and cannot be borrowed for home use.
