The English Book Club
The novel The Green Road by Anne Enright depicts the life of the Irish family Madigan, the family as a whole and each of its member individually, in the span of thirty years, sparing some less, others more. Each of the now grown children lives bearing his or her own destiny and each in his or her own country, but all of them reunite for Christmas feast with their now aged matriarchal mother. This Christmas is undoubtedly their last, spent in their home Irish village, as their mother decides to sell the house, which evokes different memories and different feelings, while they all strive to restore relationships.
The group is open to anyone, and meets on a monthly basis, each last Friday. The conversations are intended as presentations of literary works and as exercise of English, as they take place in English exclusively. The club meeting will be moderated by one of its members.
