The grace year

Everyone knows about the Year of Grace, even though it is forbidden to talk about it. Sixteen-year-old girls are taken to the forest where they must survive a whole year alone. During this time, they are supposed to cleanse themselves of their own harmful powers and, on their return, take on their assigned roles. But the festive period soon becomes, for them, a battle for life. This dystopian novel in the style of The Handmaid’s Tale and The Hunger Games will appeal to teenagers and adults alike. Will Tierney James, a rebellious teenager, succeed in overthrowing the system and empowering women? The teens in the novel must let go of their power, but they are far from powerless. (EZ)
