The other Americans

One night, Driss Guerraoui is hit to death by a car. Although at first glance it all looks like a car accident, his daughter Nora has the feeling that it is no coincidence. In the novel we simultaneously follow the stories of Nora, her mother Maryam and Driss’s late father, Jeremy the policeman, Agent Coleman, Anderson the neighbour and Efraín the eyewitness, who together reveal the background of Driss’s private life and suggest that the collision was not really an accident. What is more, Driss’s death also has a lot to do with the fact that he is a Moroccan immigrant. The novel was a finalist for the 2019 American National Book Award. (NA)
