Ljubljana City Library (MKL) has for many years been the only public library in Slovenia with full institutional membership in IFLA – the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. This membership enables direct participation in the global professional community and the exchange of knowledge and experience in the development of public library services.
MKL takes an active role in several IFLA professional sections, including:
- the Environment, Sustainability and Libraries Section (ENSULIB),
- the Libraries for Children and Young Adults Section (C&YA),
- the Metropolitan Libraries Section (MetLib), and
- the Public Libraries Section (PUBLIB).
Through the election of its representatives to the standing committees of these sections, MKL actively represents Slovenian librarianship at the international level and contributes to shaping global policies, guidelines, and initiatives for library development.
